Tom Bradshaw has helped shape the greater Raleigh community for more than 40 years through elected and civic leadership. Bradshaw took lessons learned from Raleigh's original community leadership program to contribute to building a more successful place to live, work, and play. Hear his thoughts on Raleigh's past and insights on how graduates can contribute to Raleigh's future at this LRAA Leadership Tune-up. After his remarks, a panel of graduates will share thoughts on their own leadership roles, both professionally and in the community.

This event is free for LRAA dues-paying members and $25 for non-members. Registration includes the program and a continental breakfast.

Leadership Raleigh 26 —
Human services day review

On Dec. 14 attendees learned about local human services, including mental health and emergency response.

LR 25 graduate and Human Services Co-chair Natalie Britt explained the importance of the Human Services Day: "This year's Human Services Day included two very timely subjects. We started with a panel on mental health and mental health reform just as it has been announced Dix Hospital is closing by the end of the year, and the day ended with the poverty simulation exercise provided by the United Way od the Greater Triangle. The class also learned about The Healing Place of Wake County and the Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle. At this time of the year as we approach the holiday season, it is important to remember the less fortunate among us. Human Services Day was a memorable and inspirational day for LR 26."

LRAA DUES

LRAA's mission is to provide opportunities for members to remain connected with each other and with community issues. Your dues are the core of our budget and will be used to directly support Leadership Raleigh and its alumni programs. Dues help us carry out our mission and aid in providing operational support of LR's program, education, and website, as well as the direct scholarship support in assuring class diversity through minority, small business, and nonprofit representation. Be on the lookout for your 2010/11 dues invoice.

Membership recruitment

Do you know someone who is a rising leader within your organization? Membership recruitment is already underway for LR class 27, and as an alumni, you know the value the program offers to the future leaders in our community. Please help us in identifying candidates for the upcoming year. The first information session is March 31 at 9 a.m. at the Greater Raleigh Chamber. Please send recommended candidates' information to Greg McNamara.

Best Leadership Raleigh memory: Working with my Leadership Raleigh project team on our community service project with April's Angels. We helped to redesign William's room to give it a musical theme for him to enjoy. The look on his and his family members' faces during the unveiling is my favorite memory of my Leadership Raleigh experience.

Impact of Leadership Raleigh: Leadership Raleigh inspired me to be more involved in our community. I never realized how fortunate I am, and during the program I realized so many needs of our community. I also got to make some amazing connections and incredible friendships.

Community involvement: I am heavily involved with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, as a team captain for the Light the Night Walk and a member of the Executive Sponsorship Committee. My family has also been the top fundraising team for the last nine years. This year I was also the public relations chair for the Caring Community Foundation.
