The Progress Energy Excellence in Supplier Diversity Award recognizes a sustained commitment to diverse business practices and the development of minority and women-owned companies.
CRITERIA |

Member of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. |

Privately or publicly held corporation, proprietorship or partnership
(not a subsidiary or division). |

At least three full years of operation, beginning January 1, 2006. |

Significant annual diversity spending increase over the past three years, 2006, 2007, 2008. |

The Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce will select a panel of community and business leaders who will determine the award winner. |

The Progress Energy Excellence in Supplier Diversity Award will be presented at the annual Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce Pinnacle Business Awards Celebration on May 19, 2009. |
DEFINITIONS |

Minority Business Enterprise (MBE): A business enterprise that is at least 51% owned and controlled by a minority individual or group, or in the case of any publicly owned business, at least 51% of the stock is owned by one or more of those individuals. The utility presumes that minority is defined as, Black Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, Asian Americans, Disabled Veterans, Veterans, HUB zone and 8(a). |

Women Business Enterprise (WBE): For the purpose of this awards program, the firm shall not include women of ethnic origin: (Asian American, Black, Hispanic, or Native Americans). The business concerns enterprise must be at least 51% owned and controlled by a woman or women; or in the case of a publicly owned business, at least 51% of management and daily business operations are controlled by one or more women. |

1. Provide a copy of corporate policy statement for your supplier diversity program.
2. Provide a copy of process flow chart and/or procedure. Show and/or explain how the supplier diversity program's processes are woven throughout your organization. How is it communicated to all business units, i.e., reports, monthly meetings, etc.?
3. Provide information relative to how you communicate the objectives and goals of the program to the MBE/WBE community and affiliated organizations.
4. Describe programs/techniques used to develop MBE/WBEs. Give details of the innovative ways your company enhanced business to MBE/WBEs (i.e., financial assistance, partnering, alliances, adopt a vendor program, etc.)
5. Provide the total number of first-tier dollars spent with MBEs and WBEs for products and services for 2006, 2007, 2008.
